Using unique Avid project and workspace data analytics, Workspace Tools are uniquely project cognisant, meaning a complete understanding of the nature and context of assets held within a workspace and linked assets in other workspaces.
Once workspaces are completely scanned, any subsequent backups of workspaces have the highest level of integrity. As the analytics aggregate and copy associated project media held in other workspaces, the recovery of a workspace is complete with no missing media.
Why do our clients replace their existing Avid disaster recovery systems with Workspace Tools? The answers are simple.
- Recovery using conventional disaster recovery tools is too slow in achieving the recommencement of ISIS NEXIS production - in one customer case a week’s outage to recover a large ISIS.
- Recovered projects that have been logged as successfully backed up are in fact incomplete - so even after waiting for recovery there are major production issues.
Either of the above can have significant adverse business, operational and commercial impact including missing on-air schedules and contractual deadlines.
There are other benefits. Workspace Tools use ‘set and forget’ policies and usually run with no user intervention. Changing policies is simple as the user interface is web based, so the service can be accessed remotely. In the event of a location becoming inaccessible, a user can remotely access the system and reconfigure, if required.
Workspace Tools may be used alongside a companion Marquis Broadcast product, Project Parking which is an Avid ISIS / NEXIS project lifecycle management tool. Using advanced analytics and visualisation tools, it manages Avid ISIS / NEXIS storage and archiving to Tier 2, cloud storage or specific archive’s API. Project Parking will also clean up redundant files: duplicate and orphaned media - typically resulting in a 10-20% space recovery.
Used in combination with Workspace Tools this has benefit of ensuring no unnecessary files are propagated into the backup, saving even more capacity, and further accelerating time to recovery.
